It`s very interesting point of view. Too much information can really confuse people. But On the other hand there are always be people who care about the others, and people who don`t. Everybody is making his or her own choice.

Can anyone comment on if the vegetarian dishes are vegan-able?
Like if I leave off cheese & sour cream - is #24 (Little Chihauha) vegan or is there more hidden dairy?
And what's not vegan about the Daikon Cakes at Slanted Door?
Missing: fragrant crispy chicken at Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant.
I thought the vegan sausage at Rosamunde is just a Tofurky sausage?
the crusted mushrooms at millennium should be asterisked: they are vegan.
I can't believe Rosamunde is ON this list! I'm all for solid vegan options at non-veg restaurants, but what vegan wants to hang out at a meat orgy? It's totally not worth it. YUCK!
Oh lord... so many missed entries here.
Veggie Pho at Sunflower. It is one of the very few places that uses a veggie broth in their pho.
Falafel wrap at Truly Mediterranean.
Meatless Mike's is a much better sandwich than Bud Bundy.
Avoid "Dosa" (the place) at all costs. It is not authentic. The hipsters may think it is, but let me tell you, it is not.
Udupi Palace serves much better, more authentic and cheaper dosas.
It's "PATXI'S", and not "PAXTI's" ! Ugh.
DON'T GO TO ROSAMUNDE. Worst service ever. We tried to order the vegan sausage and they gave us regular sausage and then when we told them they gave us meat which we ate by accident (and my boyfriend is a vegetarian), they were incredibly unsympathetic and smug about their mistake.
The Plant Burger definitely should be #1. The best vegan burger in the world. It turned me vegetarian and now I'm vegan! Thank you Plant Cafe Organic!!! The Marina location at Steiner & Chestnut is the absolute BEST!
The Neatloaf Sandwich from Ananda Fuara should be on this list, along with Pi Pia Tofu Balls at Shangri La.
Also - the vegan pizza at Beretta is much better than the Beretta item you mentioned, AND much better than the vegan pizza at Paxti's. Paxti's unfortunately uses Daiya soy cheese, as opposed to the much much better Vegan Gourmet soy cheese used at Beretta.
You actually CAN get the dosas at Dosa made VEGAN. Asterisk it up!
Did I miss Ananda Fuara, or did they simply not make the list?
They serve truly amazing vegetarian and vegan food, though it would be hard to choose just one item on their menu.
Hmmm...I don't intend to die in SF. ;-)
Reaction restaurant in the Mission. The most amazing Mexican food (Mexican city street food!) and most of it comes vegetarian. You don't miss the meat, it's fantastic and dirt cheap!
The Bernal Roll at Mokis. deeelish
BLT at Cafe Gratitude (when they don't run out). YUM!

the Little Star pizza at Little Star!
Strong agree with #1. Two strong disagrees - La Taqueria and Papalote. La Taq is the least flavorful taqueria I've been to (for a vegetarian, I have no idea about the meats), and I've been to most in the Mission. Papalote's tofu mole is something I've had twice over the years, thinking "yay, mole, I never get to have mole," and both times, it's been bland, and the tofu is just lumps in the sauce.
What happened to Golden Era?
I agree! Udupi Palace is my preferred choice!
the thrice cooked bacon at MCF can be made vegan.
Agreed with the comment above that Udupi Palace is definitely a better choice: cheaper and more authentic than Dosa. My in-laws are South Indian and Udupi Palace is their go to restaurant in SF when they come to visit. They tried Dosa once and concluded that it was pretty far from the real South Indian food they grew up eating in South India.
Great post...thank you!
Give me a burger anyday.

Um, the El Zocalo that you linked to is in Arizona.
Forget Dosa (#10); Udupi Palace is where it's at, AND the entire menu's vegetarian. This list would've benefited from mentioning a few more items from strictly vegetarian establishments; I only count three (#3, 23, and 45, all stellar picks), but SF's relatively teeming with veg-only options. Golden Era's spring rolls and the soy chicken shawarma wrap from Herbivore would've made fantastic additions in that, um, vein.
You forgot Korean Chicken at Jasmine Tea House with 'meatless chicken'.
