Try Not to Drool on This Eco-Chic Sonoma Estate

A chic, sustainably built home on an expansive meadow in Sonoma? When can we move in?

Designed by the award-winning Bay Area firm Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects, this contemporary, single-story home is made for indoor-outdoor living and basking in the sun beneath the oaks. There's also a spring-fed pond, of course.

The home is comprised of three free-standing structures, each with their own identity and intended use: The main house has all the usual suspects—a living area, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and dining space with lovely natural light thanks to sliding glass doors and oversized windows.

The guest house, meanwhile, is just waiting to host a few of our best friends—we know they'll appreciate the covered outdoor lounge, what with its fireplace and barbecue area, of course. Can you say summer dinner party?

Finally, the third building acts as a pool house, with a shaded outdoor dining area, changing room, and playroom for the kids. We can't decide whether we'd prefer a dip in the pool or some us time with a book in an adirondack by the pond—doesn't this fire pit look nice?

The Sonoma estate is fully energy-efficient with passive cooling systems and heavy insulation, and a photovoltaic hot water heater for the house and the pool. We're sold.

Here are the specs:

Location: Sonoma

Bedrooms: 5 beds

Bathrooms: 5 baths

Square footage: 4,890 sq ft.
