Sweat SF: High-Intensity Training in a Gorgeous Space at Hit Fit SF

Sweat SF: High-Intensity Training in a Gorgeous Space at Hit Fit SF

By

From the founders of Polk Street Boxing Gym, Hit Fit SF's new location in Nob Hill serves up high intensity circuit training, as well as boxing and boot camp classes for all levels.

When you first arrive at Hit Fit SF, the exposed brick wall, vaulted ceilings, and natural lighting might make you feel like you're in a beautiful new neighborhood bar, rather than a gym, but the array of kettle bells and medicine balls lining the room reveal the true purpose of this beautiful space. And in case you're not convinved yet, the unmistakable sound of leather meeting leather resonating from the corner ring mixed with the whir of air bikes and rowing machines, all set to a soundtrack of hip hop, is more than enought to get your head in the game.

Despite having the infamous “TRX” in the title, we decided to try the TRX Circuit Training class. The instructor Andrew Moy left no piece of gym equipment untouched in a variety of fast-paced circuits. We started with jumping rope, the standard warm up for most Hit Fit classes, and went straight into a quick succession of bodyweight intervals from lunges to squats and push-ups. The middle section of class featured the TRX bands—traditional exercises including chess presses, rows, and triceps, were paired with curveballs such as one-legged burpees. We ended class with a full gym circuit, working with a partner around six stations for two rotations. 40 seconds doesn't sound like a lot until you're holding a plank while your partner continuously jumps side to side over your body (with a burpee in between hops, naturally).

Pairing intimidating nicknames with impressive credentials— Hank “The Tank” Frost is an instructor as well as Pro MMA Fighter Xavier Macay—the Hit Fit team is incredibly welcoming and personable, and their constantly evolving classes are dynamic, challenging and, dare I say it, fun. For those who are seeking more of a challenge or looking to jumpstart a new routine Hit Fit also offers a 3-week boot camp spanning Monday through Friday, 6-7:30am.

HIT FIT SF is located at 1150 Sutter Street. Your first class is FREE! Drop in rates start at $30 and discounted series and monthly memberships are also available.
