Nestled below majestic Mount Tamalpais, Mill Valley is reminiscent of a charming European village.
Surrounded by national parks—including the ancient coastal redwood forest, Muir Woods—the hamlet's lush hills and canyons are a favorite place for hiking, mountain biking, and running. As you stroll up and down the quaint nearby streets, you’ll be tempted by an array of fashionable boutiques, cafes, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Once downtown, a ton of good food demands your attention.

The one that stands tallest is a longtime favorite Piazza D’Angelo, a family-owned Italian restaurant named after its location on the piazza in downtown Mill Valley. After 40 years, second-generation owner Luigi Petrone carries the tradition onward, combining Southern Italian flavors with local ingredients. Luigi builds his menus around what’s fresh at the farmers’ markets, as well the dishes his father served for decades, which include housemade pastas, wood-fired pizzas, antipasti, fresh fish, prime meats, and signature desserts like tiramisu and cannoli.
Right around the corner from the restaurant is Mill Valley Inn, a charming boutique hotel nestled in a grove of redwoods that feels as if it is in a world of its own.
The inn combines the sophistication of a small European hotel with the charm of a historic mill town. Enjoy tastefully decorated rooms, warm hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and amenities like a continental breakfast buffet, a wine reception in the redwoods, and free parking. The Mill Valley Inn is just a short walking distance from some of the best things to do in Marin, including live music, galleries, coffee houses, bakeries, and restaurants galore.

If you need recommendations on what to do while downtown Mill Valley, be sure to visit the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce from 12pm to 4pm every Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. They have plenty of helpful information for visitors and are always preparing for the next community event.
