This year, Halloween is on a Wednesday–but it doesn't have to be Bummertown, USA. It just means a few more days of hard partying, dancing, being weird, and getting the most out of your costume(s). Here's our guide to Bay Area parties, but beware: The first one starts on Thursday, so pace yourselves!


Zombie Nightlife at the California Academy of the Sciences,October 25
Everyone’s favorite uber nerdy night takes a turn for the ghoulish, featuring zombie-themed tutorials on the subjects of neuroscience and pathology. But before you educate yourself on the budding field of zombieology, down a couple fleshy cocktails and get yourself zombiefied.

SF’s 2nd Annual FLASHBACK HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANZA at the Mezzanine, October 26
For those of you with make-up intense costumes, you may want to skip this event because the ground-shaking bass coming from DJs Wonder Bread 5, DJ Damon, and DJ Vidal will have you bumping and sweating all night long until the AM. Each DJ will be spinning his own genre of tunes in addition the 80’s themed go-go dancers.

Spooky Dance Party at 1015 Folsom

Bummed out by all insanely high cover charges by nearly single venue in town for Halloween? Then make your make to the 1015 Folsom club in SOMA where they’ll be having a free Halloween dance with passport-pop outfit Yeasayer DJing.

CLUB 1994 Halloween Bash at the Vessel,October 27
The two-decade revival rule will be in full effect for Halloween this Saturday at CLUB 1994. The club will throwing down a 90’s style jam that promises to be even bigger and 90’sier than last year’s hoe down. Complementing this spooky Clinton-era bash will be fanfare such as costume contests, a 90’s themed photobooth, and dance-off.

It’s gonna be a monster mash-up party! Expect the usual mashup bangers from DJs A Plus D, Dada, and Smash-Up Derby and in addition, when the clock strikes 12 get ready to strut your awesome halloween digs on the main stage for the costume contest.

A True Blood Halloween at Fort Mason Center,October 27
The creators of True Blood Halloween (not affiliated with the HBO show) return to the Fort Mason Center in what promises to be the most spooktacular and grandiose production in the whole city.

Eye Heart Halloween at Longshoremen’s Hall,
October 27
Taking place in the same venue that’s hosted the legendary Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Jefferson Airplane, the Longshoremen’s Hall will play host for a 2nd time to the EyeHeartSF’s extravagant Halloween. The affair will feature an open bar and numerous DJs spinning bass-throbbing electro jams.

Those with high-brow tastes looking for a Halloween event to much their style should look no further than this event, where the sounds of organist Cameron Carpenter will accompany a showing of this classic horror film.

Truck or Treat at SOMA Streat Food Park,
October 31
Too old to trick or treat and love food trucks? Then head on over to the newly opened SOMA Streat Food Park where you’ll be able to trick or treat at the food trucks that’ll be setting up shop. Loads of prizes and specials will be abound.

Halloween Dance Party at Cafe Du Nord

Funkalicious band Planet Booty and electro-hoppers Double Duchess will combine forces at Cafe Du Nord in what should be one of the best dance parties actually happening on Halloween.
