100-Point Cabernet Pairs With Mod Design at Napa's Odette Estate

By

Just up the Silverado Trail from Napa, Odette Estate serves up cabernet with serious attitude in a setting just begging for Instagram documentation. Located near the southern end of the noted Stag's Leap wine district, Odette's tasting room brings to mind a country farmhouse—an incredibly modern and architecturally stunning farmhouse, that is. The space is bright and airy, situated at the base of one of the area's signature rolling hills. And then there's the wine.

One of the Stag's Leap's youngest wineries, Odette Estate hit its stride in February with the must-anticipated release of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, which netted a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker in Wine Advocate. As a part of the PlumpJack Group (from partners Gordon Getty, Gavin Newsom, and John Conover), Odette's tasting room also features wines from PlumpJack labels Adaptation and Cade, where Odette winemaker Jeff Owens cut his teeth as the assistant winemaker. White wine lovers will fall for the delicate yet substantial 2012 Adaptation Chardonnay and so-drinkable 2013 Cade Estate Sauvignon Blanc.

Besides the 36‐acre soon-to-be-organic vineyard and 5,000-square‐foot winery, the property also includes a labyrinth's worth of manmade caves and an event space slated to open this summer. The entire property is LEED gold certified, with solar panels, a living roof, and winemaker offices and laboratory constructed from recycled shipping containers. Sustainbility never looked (and tasted) so good.

Tours and tastings 10:30am - 4pm by appointment. 5998 Silverado Trail, Napa.
