Enjoy the holidays with a true San Francisco icon: Anchor Brewing Co.’s Christmas Ale.
Each year brings a unique and secret recipe for Christmas Ale and the bottles feature a fresh, hand-drawn label. For 2022, the label depicts a blue gum eucalyptus tree, a nod to Mary Ellen Pleasant, the mother of civil rights in California.
The 48th annual Christmas Ale packs notes of orange, honeysuckle, toasted malts, and eucalyptus. Well-structured with botanicals and pleasantly herbaceous hops, the rye-forward brew finishes with a touch of spice like the warming bitter-sweet notes of amaro, an Italian herbal liqueur often enjoyed as an after-dinner digestif.
The 7.2 percent ale pairs well with hearty winter fare such as roasted achiote chicken with molé or a sweet treat like chocolate bundt cake.
Anchor Christmas Ale is now available in 12-ounce bottles, six packs, and festive magnums at grocery and liquor retailers and for delivery via Instacart.
