Get ready for a delightful treat at Marin’s farmers markets.
The region’s most popular farmers’ markets are hosted by the Agricultural Institute of Marin and are open rain or shine. The largest—at the Marin Center parking lot on Thursdays from 8am to 1pm—is so popular with local chefs, it’s known as the Chef’s Market.
The market features a little bit of everything: coffee and bakery items, fresh flowers and produce, jams, honey, cheese, meats, and prepared foods and snacks. Chefs have their own parking spaces and food carts on-site and can be seen bartering with booth owners and farmers. You can even find unexpected artisan-made jewelry and other gifts. Come back on Sunday for the San Rafael Market at Marin County Civic Center, which is open from 8am to 1pm.
Marin Community Farmers Markets also hosts certified farmers’ markets throughout the county. On Tuesdays, be sure to check out the year-round market at Strawberry Village, which is open from 10:30am to 2:30pm. On Wednesdays, head to the year-round farmers’ market at Town Center Corte Madera from 12pm to 5pm.
Saturdays, plan for a late morning or afternoon at Marin Country Mart. They not only host a farmers’ market from 9am to 2pm, but you can also shop, have lunch, and let the kids play. Plus, through the end of October, you’ll find tons of heirloom pumpkins at the Honor System Pumpkin Patch. Pick your favorite, drop your cash in the box—or pay by QR code—and take home a little piece of fall.
Although the local Point Reyes Station farmers’ market has closed for the season, there’s still a reason to go there, too—especially if you need artisan cheese. Pull into Giacomini Dairy’s Point Reyes Farmstead Company Marketplace, located off of Highway 1 and open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 4pm. They’ve got locally made goodies, snack packs, and all the cheese you could ever want.
