Cinco de Mayo Adventures Around Town

Cinco de Mayo isn't all about sipping a ton of tequila, but a little never hurt anyone. Here are a few ways to soak up the celebration.

SF Giants Cinco de Mayo Celebration, May 6, 7:15 pm

Mixing Los Gigantes and Cinco de Mayo just makes sense. On the evening of May 6th, head to AT&T Park to watch our orange-and-black-clad boys battle the Colorado Rockies. If you grab a special ticket for the night, you'll score a "Los Gigantes" rally poncho (perfect to keep you warm at night games) and access to the stadium's game pre-party in Seals Plaza, where there will be live music, margaritas, and more. Try dinner at Tres in SOMA before the game with your crew.

Cinco de Mayo Festival, May 7, 10 am

Taking back Dolores Park from the beer-swilling hipsters on Saturday, May 7th, the Cinco de Mayo Festival celebrates the very best of Mexican and Latin American food, music, and dance and art in a family-friendly environment. Check the main stage for non-stop performances by local Latin musicians, and a kids zone, full of face-painting and magic tricks. The entire fest will be kicked off at 10 am with a park-wide Zumba-thon exercise class to really get those juices flowing. Proceeds benefit Mission Neighborhood Centers.

Cinco de Mayo at Mijita, May 5, all day

Watch the Giants play abroad on Cinco de Mayo at Mijita, the delish Mexican joint attached to AT&T Park. This Thursday, get happy on their margaritas, which will be $5 all day long. Once the AT&T Park locale closes for the night, the same specials will be served at Public House, right next door (as well as at Mijita's Ferry Building outpost). From 2-4 pm, enjoy their "taco happy hour", where many of their tacos will be half-price.

Silk-Screening with Etsy Craft Bar at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art, May 5, 6 pm

We always love getting crafty, especially when it involves good, cheap beer. At this month's Etsy Craft Lab, you'll learn how to silk-screen bags, t shirts and posters using bright, bold Sister Corita-style collaged imagery, perfect for the occasion. Bring your own shirts or bags to silk-screen, or pay an extra $5 for materials provided by Ecobags.com. Sip on $1 Trumer Pils beer while listening to live music by Coconut.

Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour at Tropisueño, May 5, 4 pm

If you're more of the party-after-work persuasion, check out Tropisueño on Yerba Buena Lane. It goes bananas, especially during their happy hour, where you can find a galaxy of tequilas, Mexican beers and snacks to kick off your night with. Chips & salsa are free, guacamole is just $3, ice cold Tecates are $2, and all draught beers are $3. Well drinks and margaritas are $5. Specials this good will guarantee you a good night's sleep.

Taverna Aventine's Cinco de Mayo Block Party, May 5, 5 pm

Tons of drinks and killer music make this block party a must-do for any Cinco de Mayo enthusiast. See the Afro-Cuban and synth-heavy Latin freestyle music of Chico Mann and dance to the funky disco stylings of DJ Dukes. Top Chef contestant Ryan Scott will be there with his new taco truck to satify your hunger pangs. Entrance is free, and there will be plenty of Mexican beer, margaritas and tequila drinks to quench your thirst.

Harlot's Cinco de Mayo Celebration, May 5, 10 pm

Drop by this SoMa nightclub for a night spent dancing to the pulsing beats of house DJs Miguel Migs and Mauricio Aviles, all-night drink specials, and the delectable Tonayense taco truck parked right outside. The celebration is free!
