1. Mission Bowling Club Opens: The blogosphere has been abuzz with the news that the long-awaited Mission Bowling Club has finally opened its doors. But while most reports have focused on the six lanes and the innovative food program by Mission Street Food's Anthony Myint, the MBC is also a drinking destination of note, with a full bar and cocktails developed by the team behind Minibar. (They've got plenty of space for non-bowlers, too, so reserving a lane isn't an issue if you just want to sample the fare.) Signature drinks ($10) include the MBC Cooler (rye, grapefruit, Dolin blanc, allspice, and soda) and the TBD (a combination of mezcal, jalapeno jam, and that will be named after the first bowler to score a perfect 300). The nine drafts include selections from Magnolia and Russian River, as well as the inevitable PBR. 2. Don Q Rum and USBG Cocktail Competition: The United States Bartenders' Guild is hosting one of their member mixology battles next week, featuring the Puerto Rican sugarcane stylings of Don Q rum. Complimentary samples of the competitors' cocktails and traditional Puerto Rican grub will be on offer, with the drink that best expresses the spirit of the island earning its creator a trip to the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. 3. Get Hungry: SF Food Goes Lomographic: The recently opened Lomography shop in Union Square is hosting a new art show on San Franciscans' favorite subject: food. With photos of grub from the likes of Flour + Water, Michael Mina, Foreign Cinema, Leopold's, and Hog Island Oyster Company, the exhibit might leave you feeling a little peckish. There's no need to starve, though, since the Lomo folks are serving up snacks from Bun Mee and Tom Pizzica and free Trumer Pils to wash them down. Be sure to RSVP at their Facebook event page. 4. Champagne Sabering and Tasting Event: Fans of bubbly won't want to miss this Champagne Socials and Planet Grape event, which will feature big Champagne names like Perrier-Jouet, Mumm, Piper-Heidsieck, Henriot, Taittinger, Monthuy, and L'Host. Master sommelier Catherine Fallis will begin the evening by sabering open a bottle of bubbles (complete with gloves and a sword), before offering commentary on the wines. 5. Slow Sip Happy Hour: If you've got tonight off and are interested in supporting the Slow Food movement over cocktails, consider attending the organization's Slow Sip happy hour at the Orbit Room. Your $5 donation will get you access to $9 cocktails and $13 pizzas, as well as plenty of conversation with like-minded drinkers.
