Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

By

1. The Rite Spot Reopens: After some health-code troubles last year, 60-year-old Mission bar/performance space the Rite Spot is open under new management, and they're back to hosting live music most nights, starting at 9 pm. (Admission is free, but they require a $6 per person food and drink minimum.) They've also launched a happy hour from 4-7 Monday-Thursday and 2-7 on Friday, with $2.50 pints and $3 well drinks and house wine. And the full food menu is back in play, with comfort food like chicken parmesan, pastas, and a burger. Their hours are still TBD, but they plan to be open seven nights a week. (2099 Folsom St., Mission.)

2. The Mortimer and Popscene Happy Hour: The new Mortimer bar in the Hotel Adagio, which replaced Bar Adagio, opened last month, and now they're launching a happy hour as well, in conjunction with the indie DJs of Popscene. Every Thursday, they'll offer a three-hour happy hour with a $7 signature cocktail, as well as discounts on wine and beer and bar bites for $4-10. After everyone's gotten a little illuminated, the Popscene folks will lead the charge over to the Rickshaw Stop for their weekly live show. (Thursdays, 6-9 pm, at the Mortimer, 550 Geary St., Union Square.)

3. Football at Elixir: Now that football season is in full swing, Elixir is hoping to lure fans with the opportunity to nosh and drink for a cause. They're offering a free buffet with hot dogs, chili, tortilla chips, and a rotating entree like hamburgers or grilled chicken, and asking for a $5 donation to Share Our Strength, which fights to eradicate childhood hunger, in exchange. The buffet is sponsored by Newcastle beer, which will be on sale at the bar for $4/pint (normally $6) during every game. The bar opens at 9 am on Saturdays and 10 am on Sundays, so you won't miss any East Coast gridiron action, either. (Saturdays, 9 am-2 am, Sundays, 10 am-2 am, at Elixir, 3200 16th St., Mission.)

4. Wo Hing General Store's New Happy Hour: Also in the Mission, Wo Hing General Store, Charles Phan's Chinese-food outpost, has launched their first-ever happy hour with lots of great $6 drink options, including a margarita, martini, classic daiquiri, old-fashioned, or a Trumer Pils with your choice of shot (bourbon, tequila, rum, scotch, or Fernet). There are also bar bites ($5-8) like chicken wings and a shrimp and green garlic dumpling. If you're in SOMA, Phan's Heaven's Dog has a very similar lineup and price point at their happy hour, which runs from 5-6:30. (Daily, 5:30-7 pm, at Wo Hing General Store, 584 Valencia St., Mission.)

5. '90s Night at the Hi-Fi Lounge: If you're looking to dance and drink on the cheap, look no further than the Hi-Fi's new weekly '90s night, which is offering 90-cent beer and cocktails for the first 90 minutes of the evening. DJ Illborn will spin the best dance music from the decade, and you're encouraged to request your favorite tune on their Facebook page. (Thursdays, drink deal 8:30-10 pm, at the Hi-Fi Lounge, 2125 Lombard St., Marina.)
