1. OneUp Restaurant & Lounge Opens: The renovated Grand Hyatt hotel just outside of Union Square has added a new restaurant and bar, and they've called in the big guns, with Cass Calder Smith designing the space and Scott Beattie consulting on the bar menu. Cocktails ($13) include the Downtown Manhattan, which combines Templeton rye with Evan Williams single-barrel bourbon and Carpano Antica, and the Millionaire, a combination of rum, sloe gin, and apricot liqueur. Whiskey fans also shouldn't miss the bar's custom, 138-proof whiskey from Napa Valley-based Charbay, aged for 22 months in Chardonnay barrels and served in a flask. If you're peckish, bar bites include a lamb burger and duck-fat potato wedges. (Daily, 11 am-1 am, 345 Stockton St., Union Square.)
2. Cocktail Class at E&O Asian Kitchen: E&O Asian Kitchen, just down the street from the Hyatt, also underwent a high-profile renovation this year, including the addition of Absinthe alum and Chronicle bar star Carlos Yturria behind the stick. This Sunday evening, he'll lead a demonstration of how to make three of the restaurant's signature cocktails, pairing each drink with a bite from the restaurant's pan-Asian menu. Yturria's drinks at E&O emphasize tropical fruit and unusual spirits like sake and mezcal, and with tickets priced at only $20, it should be a good way to add some new tricks to your cocktail repertoire. 3. Un Poquito de Pisco: Poquito in the Dogpatch offers a strong lineup of cocktails and spirits to pair with its pan-Latin fare, and this Thursday, they're offering a buy one, get one deal on $5 pisco cocktails made with Pisco Porton. While you sip, nosh on bar bites like croquetas, patatas bravas, empanadas, chorizo sliders, and ceviche (gluten-free diners should take particular note, as they have lots of clearly labeled options specifically for them). If you're not feeling in the mood for pisco, the bar also offers a full selection of beer and wine. (Thursday, November 29, 7-10 pm, at Poquito, 2368 3rd St., Dogpatch.)
4. Holiday Beer Tasting at the Jug Shop: If you've been hoping to sample some of the holiday craft beers that have been flowing into stores, head over to the Jug Shop this Friday night to try 16 of the best in one fell swoop. Cicerone Eric Cripe will have bottles from Deschutes, Ninkasi, Moylan's, Jolly Pumpkin, Sierra Nevada, and more on hand, as well as side-by-side tastings of aged beers, like 2010 and 2011 Telegraph winter ale, 2010 and 2011 Grand Teton Coming Home, and 2010 Lost Abbey Gift of the Magi. 5. Whiskey Waxing Mustache & Beard Competition: If you've been growing a mustache for Movember and are ready to show it off before the razor drops on December 1, head over to Comstock Saloon for a competition that celebrates the best facial hair in town. Contestants will be judged on form, style, and ability to sip whiskey, the latter of which should be aided by the happy hour specials available from 4-7 pm.
