Dogpatch Pub Crawl on Cinco de Mayo
It's a good thing so many great bars are within stumbling distance of each other in Dogpatch. Suerte Tequila is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl in the heart of the Dogpatch Neighborhood on Monday, May 5 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. If you're over 21, you can join the progressive party for free, visiting five stops serving five different Suerte Tequila cocktails, taco specials, and bar snacks. Prices range from $5 to $8 for food and cocktails. Grab a bar crawl card at any of the participating bars and get a stamp at each stop. Once you've collected four stamps, the final secret Dogpatch drinking location will be revealed. Named after Mexican-born jockey Mario Gutierrez, who appropriately won the Derby on a horse named I’ll Have Another, the Gutierrez Julep is a refreshing combination of Ocho Anejo tequila, Pierde Almas mescal, oregano, and blackberries. Derby Party at the Starlight Room
If you prefer floppy sun hats to sombreros, don your dandiest outfit for the annual Kentucky Derby Party at the Starlight Room. The doors open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 for a fancy, four-hour party celebrating the fastest two minutes in sports. For $55, you'll be treated to a grand buffet, live dance music, and a complimentary Mint Julep and mimosas. Derby attire is requested, and prizes will be awarded for the "Best Hat" and "Best Dressed Couple." Derby Day Oyster Fest with Shuck and Suck Contest
Hog & Rocks, the City's only ham and oyster bar, is hosting a Derby Day Oyster Fest on Saturday with food, drink, and festivities for $30. Ticket price includes entrance, one Mint Julep, and $20 of Hog & Rocks poker chips, redeemable for food, beverages, and experience. Grazing is encouraged at the oyster bar, Po-Boy Station, Hand-Carved Ham Station, and Mixed Fry station. After you've finished your Mint Julep, you can switch to a Hog & Rocks Old Fashioned, a shot of select bourbon or rye (neat or on the rocks), a Scrimshaw Pilsner, or red or white wine. As for entertainment, you'll find an oyster luge, horse race gambling on all 11 races, a Derby Day Outfit Contest, and an Oyster Shuck and Suck Contest. Bluxome Street Winery Block Party
Believe it or not, there's actually a celebration this weekend that doesn't involve horses, hats, or tequila. This Saturday from noon to 7:00 p.m., Bluxome Street Winery is closing down the entire block for an all-day, family-friendly wine, food, and fun fest. Did we mention that it's free? You can expect to find gourmet food trucks, live bands, arcade games, Bluxome wines, and 21st Amendment beer. Food trucks include Lobsta Truck, Me So Hungry, Sam's Chowdermobile, Burr-Eatery, and Frozen Kuhsterd. Musical entertainment includes Rin Tin Tiger, Owl Paws, and The Easy Leaves.
