Estelle's Style Profile: Keeping it British

By

Dressed in a body-con strapless black mini-dress, wide waist-cinching belt and plenty of chunky gold jewelry, Grammy-Award winning musician Estelle delivered a hot set on stage last night in front of a jam-packed crowd at San Francisco's Mezzanine. The Brit-born diva chopped it up with the crowd between numbers, dished about her ex boyfriend and danced hip-to-hip with fans she brought up to the stage for a high-energy performance that felt playful and personal. Before she heads down to Anaheim’s House of Blues tonight on the West Coast leg of her national tour sponsored by Honeymag.com, GlamWatch caught up with the versatile hip-hop-soul-pop-reggae artist the morning after the show for some insight on her retro style inspirations, her SF faves, and, of course, those trademark lush lashes.

How would you describe your personal style?

Comfortable, but still edgy. I like to wear jeans and a shirt with a great pair of shoes.

Who are your all-time biggest fashion influences?

Grace Jones and Audrey Hepburn.

What do you never travel without?

Music or my laptop.

Do you dress much differently on stage than you do in real life?

Sometimes, because you can't wear a push up bra and dress outside all day!

How do you think fashion has evolved in hip-hop, from what it used to be back in the day compared to the present?

It's become a more current fashion industry than a man's version of what we should look like.

Having grown up in London and now living in New York, has your style changed much as a result of your move overseas?

My style hasn't changed much. I still find ways to keep it British. I get to go home a heck of a lot so I find it. I think British style is a lot of putting different trends and personal trends together and making it unique.

You're always photographed with the most amazing lashes. Are lashes a must in your beauty routine?

Lashes are a must for the stage if I have someone to help, and if not, I'm not particularly fussed. I have pretty long lashes, so some industrial strength mascara like Dior normally does the trick.

Top three items in your beauty arsenal?

The three top items in my bag are Kissable couture lipgloss, hand cream, and a small tub of SK II face cream.

Favorite place to shop in San Francisco?

The Westfield mall...because it has a Reiss!
