For our column Jams We Love, we're turning you onto the songs that keep us going every day. Today, we give you some of the artists we can't wait to see at this year's Noise Pop. Next week, we'll tackle the local artists playing NP 2012.
1. The Flaming Lips, "It's Summertime"
Ever wanted to feel like you were floating in a pool of honey? This track, from the Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots will help you accomplish that. Needless to say, they'll easily give one of the best NP performances in a decade or so.
2. Archers Of Loaf, "Toast"
One of the most anticipated reunions of any band in 2011, this North Carolinian band is once again touting signature 90s alt-rock/college-radio-gods sound across American stages. Dust off your CD copy of their ironclad debut Icky Mettle and get ready to relive your angsty teenage days.
3. Built To Spill, "The Plan"
The one constant member of Idaho's BTS, Doug Martsch, is a lot like the band's ship captain–he effortlessly sets the tone and course for the music and guiding their huge hooks with his voice and lead guitar, no matter how gorgeously unhinged their songs get. This obviously makes for the perfect opportunity to totally, in the words of Eminem, lose yourself.
4. Sleigh Bells, "Comeback Kid"
In the realm of 2012 indie releases, Sleigh Bells' sophomore LP Reign Of Terror lays near the top of the "most anticipated" heap. Alexis Krauss's deceivingly sweet vocals belie the sheer power of Derek Miller's gloriously blown out guitars. We've been mesmerized by SB in a live setting before, and the imminence of Reign Of Terror makes our hearts ache for this performance even more. Bring it on.
5. Atlas Sound, "Te Amo"
On Atlas Sound's latest album Parallax, singer Bradford Cox finally unleashes his voice from the confines of layers of reverb to totally own songs like this twinkling, swirling ballad. We can only imagine how much prettier it will sound at Bimbo's.
