For our column Jams We Love, we're turning you onto the songs that keep us going every day.
1. Twin Shadow, "Five Seconds"
This single debuted a bit ago, but now that the entire album has popped up in my inbox, there's even more reason to post it. The entire thing is a new New Wave gem, glittering with the romantic lyrics of leader George Lewis, Jr., and R&B intimacy and hedonistic, melodic archs of Prince-era pop.
2. Royal Thunder, "Mouth of Fire"
Finally, some pure, unadulterated rock and f***in roll. This Atlanta band just dropped its debut CVI on Relapse Records (known for their ear for heavy riffage), and it's getting a ton of attention for the work of lead vocalist Mlny Parsonz, whose banshee wail summons forth the golden years of both Zeppelin's Robert Plant and Courtney Love.
3. Sic Alps, "Glyphs"
SF's Sic Alps has gone through a ton of changes in the past year, but that hasn't stopped these art pop masters from emerging from the rubble with excellent new material. This new single surfaced last week, and is set to appear on their self-titled fifth album. Just don't be thrown off by the strings arrangement in the beginning.
4. Fresh & Onlys, "Yes or No"
After listening to Sic Alps' "Glyphs" for awhile, I needed a pack of Jolt gum...or maybe just an eyelid-opening dose of "Yes or No" by SF's Fresh & Onlys. Heading our way via Long Slow Dance, which comes out on September 4, this is the perfect pill for Fresh & Onlys junkies to swallow after a pretty long wait since their last LP.
