Lowering the Bar: 5 Places to Drink for Cheap (or Free) This Week

Each week, we bring you our top picks for the best places to booze on the cheap in SF.

1. Laszlo's 10th Anniversary: Foreign Cinema's sister bar is celebrating a decade in business this Thursday, with DJs, dancing, and a brand-new cocktail menu. Show up in the first hour to sample three selections from the new menu for free, or come later on to swig a $2 Trumer Pils. Either way, there'll be plenty of bites streaming in from the kitchen next door. (Thursday, October 21, 8 pm-1 am, at Laszlo, 2526 Mission St., Mission.)

2. Show Dogs' Giants Special: In further Foreign Cinema news, Show Dogs (the owners' sausage joint over in the mid-Market environs) is showing its team spirit with a Giants deal. Ask for the "Giants combo" to get a beef hot dog, side of fries, and a beer for just $10. No word on if they'll continue providing this service in the event that the hated Phillies triumph. (As long as the Giants are in the playoffs, at Show Dogs, 1020 Market St., Mid-Market.)

3. Giants Specials at Solstice: Also getting into the Giants spirit is Solstice Lounge, which will be showing every game on their big screens and offering drink specials like $2 PBRs and $4 shots of Jack Daniels. Follow them on Facebook to get the latest updates on deals for the orange and black. (During Giants games, at Solstice Lounge, 2801 California St., Pacific Heights.)

4. Beer and Bubbles Garden: To celebrate the warm October weather (or at least the potential for said), the Cosmopolitan is turning its back garden into an SF version of Oktoberfest for the two Fridays remaining in the month. Enjoy DJs, $3 beers, $5 sparkling wine and appetizers, and pleasant weather, if you're lucky. (Fridays in October, 4-10 pm, at the Cosmopolitan, 121 Spear St., Downtown.)

5. SFMOMA: Now Playing: An eternal champion in the LTB books, the latest iteration of SFMOMA's Thursday-night soirees focuses on secrets and hidden identities. Try out a few secret identities of your own after imbibing the free Trumer Pils and Scaggs wine from 6-7, then check out some art and devour $5 snacks. All you need to pay is the discounted adult admission-- it's free if you're a member. (Thursday, October 21, 6-8 pm, at SFMOMA, 151 Third St., SOMA.)
