Parking Rules on Labor Day

Parking Rules on Labor Day

By

The banks, the post office, and most private businesses will be closed on Labor Day, and most people get the day off.  Many people reason that it is a public holiday and therefore public meters should be free.  But, Labor Day is a workday for DPT officers and they will hand out approximately a quarter of a million dollars worth of parking meter violation citations, making their bosses and the finance committee happy, but possibly ruining your weekend.

Here is the Parking Enforcement Schedule on Labor Day, Monday September 3, 2012...

What Is Not Enforced on Labor Day 2012:
-Commuter Tow-Away Zones (ex. No Parking 3 pm -7 pm Commuter Lane)

-Residential Permit Zones

-M-F Daytime Street Sweeping (ex. Street Sweeping Tuesdays 8 am-10 am)

What Is Enforced on Labor Day 2012
-7 Day Street Sweeping (ex. Street Sweeping 12:00 a.m. Every Day)

-All Parking Meters

Seems pretty straight forward, but there are two places where it's easy to make an expensive mistake.

1) M-F street sweeping is not enforced, but only in the daytime. You won't have to awaken at 6:55 am and jump out of bed to move your car.  But, M-F nighttime street sweeping is enforced.  Because Monday is a holiday, Sunday night will feel like Saturday night. If you are out partying on Sunday night, remember that at
the stroke of midnight it becomes Monday.  So if there is a sign that says "Street Sweeping 12:00 am to 2:00 am M,W,F" remember what day it is.

2) Commuter lanes such as the one along the Embarcadero, are not enforced as usual on Monday. But remember, that the meters are enforced.

So take a minute to think about this when you park, and avoid getting a $75 ticket.
