New Polaroid Swing App Transforms Images into One Second Videos

By

One San Francisco-based startup is trying to bring back the magic of the instant camera.

Polaroid Swing is a new joint venture between SF startup Swing and the iconic Polaroid company. The new app, available only for iPhone, enables users to capture moving photos, or one second videos, that spring to life when you tap on the photo or move your phone. Users can also add labels to the image and choose one of four filters before sharing it either on the Swing app or through Facebook, Twitter, or email.

It sounds a lot like Boomerang, but Swing sets itself apart in the quality of the images. The videos are captured at a rate of 60 frames per second, and the resulting Swing shots are crisp and clear. Viewers also have greater control when watching the video: Swinging your phone left reverses time (the video plays backward), while going right moves the video forward in time. Plus, you can go as quickly or slowly as you like.

"Polaroid Swing has the potential to change the way we think about images, just like Twitter's 140 characters changed how we think about words. People will start seeing the world in one second moments. It's a genre-defining medium," said Biz Stone, Chairman of Swing (and co-founder of Twitter).

Like Vine, you can embed Polaroid Swing moments almost anywhere—allowing users to create fleeting works of art. // Download the app at itunes.apple.com/us/app/polaroid-swing
