The new year gets off to an engaging start as two major art fairs make their annual return to San Francisco starting January 16th.
This week, look out for Fog Design + Art to bring nearly 50 international galleries to Fort Mason, and Untitled, Art to bring back its modern show, this year including a special Podcast Lounge, to Pier 35. Here are the highlights for both.
Opening at Fort Mason on Thursday, January 16th, the seventh annual edition of Fog Design + Art will gather 48 leading galleries, from San Francisco to Rio de Janeiro, beneath a single roof for a world-class fair featuring creative designers, artists, industry experts, and dealers from around the world.
Fog Fair encourages an interactive relationship with art and design and aims at opening viewers to new ways of thinking. Expect to see both well-known and emerging talents, as well as the opportunity to engage in meaningful and thought-provoking panel conversations on a range of topics including race and identity; the connection between art and technology; and the intersection of food with art and design. Look out for the special installation, "21POP," by SF's own Stanlee Gatti.

The role of the art industry and its impact upon the world at large is a key theme of Untitled, Art San Francisco, the modern and contemporary art fair held each year at Pier 35.
This fourth annual show will introduce a wide roster of local and international galleries from Milan, Amsterdam, Sao Paolo, and beyond, with exhibitions, performances, and workshops. Onstage in the Podcast Lounge, listen in on conversations about everything from the Bay Area's changing urban landscape to the global effects of climate change. Other highlights include contemporary ceramics by local artists and an examination of African American art from the 1960s to 1980s.
