Last year, hundreds of people packed SOMArts to get their hands on bike art at Artcrank. If you missed that bike poster extravaganza, fear not, you can still get your chain-grease stained fingers on some great bike-y art.
This Sunday is Winterfest, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s annual big bicycle party and fundraiser. The art auction is massive this year, with bike-centric (and some non-bikey) for any collector’s budget.
I’ve got my eye on Rob Prideaux’s Bike Trophies photo and Phil Spitlier’s cool wood cutout of San Francisco in a bike cog (both pictured). But I’d be stoked to have any of these pieces on my wall. After all, your bike shouldn’t the only piece of art hanging on your walls.
Looking for a little more budget bike art? The SFBC has added a series of locally-designed bike posters that they’re selling for a cool $25 each. Take a look at Eric Tuve’s “Bike Routes of San Francisco (above).” It’s a virtual scavenger hunt of insider bike info, including the Wiggle and green waves and the Hairball (that’s the messy bike route under the freeway by Cesar Chavez).
Pedal on over to the biggest bike party of the year this Sunday at the Metreon and pick yourself up some new bike art! And you can keep the bike art buying happening in December, when Artcrank returns to San Francisco.
