We went behind the scenes at local carbon-fiber guitar company Blackbird Guitars to check out their process and get a glimpse into some local innovation and manufacturing. Why carbon fiber, you ask? It's as light and strong as you can get, with their lightest guitar coming in at 2.75lbs. Go on the road, on your bike, backpacking–anywhere you want to go. You won't have to worry about lugging around a big ole guitar. Since 2005, owner Joe Luttwak has sold four different guitar models and an ukulele. They’re manufactured in the Mission, but they’re sold all over the world. Check out the gallery above to see how these guitars are made right here in SF. And check out their website for more info.
