The cult-loved Japanese clothing chain, Uniqlo, just made their much anticipated West Coast debut -- a bit early and via pop-up.
Yesterday, they opened doors to the Uniqlo Pop Up Experience (117 Post, at Kearny), a tech-inspired teaser shop, generating hype for the opening of their Powell St. flagship store later this fall.
The Pop Up Experience features a scaled-down, sneak peek collection, including items from their beloved basics and denim lines, as well as their sportier, Heattech and Ultra Light Down collections.
The tech-savvy design includes a massive, spinning chandelier comprised of multi-screen TV monitors in the entryway, and a communal gathering space for industry events around tech, art, design, music, food, and of course, fashion. Often referred to as the Japanese version of Gap (though the brand likes to compare themsleves to Apple), Uniqlo produces fairly simple designs, with great attention to quality, value and fit. They made their stateside debut back in 2006, with locations in NYC, and have an ambitious plan to conquer all major US markets, with SF now at bat.
