Are you sick and stranded at home? Fridge is bare? Maybe you just can’t stand another night of pasta and butter. Here are five places that deliver some damn good vittles right to your door. It’s like magic.
Country Sky Chinese
I know, it’s kind of wrong to have dim sum delivered, but after a quick hit in a steamer at home, you’ll be set. I recommend the three-piece deal for $13.95 (I usually get the shrimp and cilantro dumpling, baked BBQ pork bun, and either the chicken bun or shumai). I also dig their spicy Hunan wor wonton soup, which reheats nicely for lunch the next day.
Lers Ros
Nothing can compare to actually visiting the Larkin Street location, but delivery is solid: The yum koh moo yang (pork shoulder), yum woon sen (silver noodles), larb phed yang (duck larb), and the famed pad kra prow moo krob (pork belly) all rock.
Mission Chinese Food
The lines may be interminable at this nationally hyped hole in the wall, but you can wait for delivery at home instead. Some dishes that travel well are the salt cod fried rice, Westlake rice porridge, mapo tofu, and Hainam chicken rice. (Please note they are closed for summer vacation, reopening on June 14th.)
Thai Place II
This under-the-radar spot on Divisadero has a few dishes on their menu that I order again and again: The larb, the barbecue chicken, and the tom yum or beef noodle soup—and they conveniently separate the noodles from the broth so they don’t get soggy in transit.
Wing Wings
Not only is the array of wings fantastic (angry Korean, spicy Buffalo), but the biscuits are top notch, whether you get them stuffed with pulled pork or chicken salad, or then there’s the incredible bacon-cheddar-onion-poppyseed number. Be sure to ask if they have any new-to-the-menu items—the kitchen is always cookin’ up something.
