Silicon Valley Eats: Macarons, Off The Grid, and a Fine Diner

Prep for the new month with a delightful array of new eateries, from covetable sweets to a new go-to spot in Menlo Park. November's looking awfully bright, already.

First up, tonight marks the launch of a brand-new Off The Grid Marketin San Carlos — this one's particularly exciting thanks to their partnership with (and location at) local microbrewery Devil's Canyon Brewing Company. In addition to a rotating roster of tasty trucks (regulars will include Bacon Bacon, Chez Franc, Seoulful Korean Fried Chicken, and Cheese Gone Wild), eaters can enjoy fresh brews and live music. Tonight, costumes are encouraged, and there will be a kids' costume parade and an all-ages costume contest.

Now that you've locked down your Halloween plans, get excited for one of the most anticipated Peninsula openings of the fall: Bradley's Fine Diner (BFD), a brand-new, more approachable restaurant concept from James Beard Award-winning chef Bradley Ogden. Ogden (formerly of One Market and Lark Creek) has created a menu of ingredients-driven comfort food "with a twist;" think pot roast with braised short ribs, or pork belly braised with huckleberry and served with grits (plus, a killer burger and apple turnovers for dessert). In true diner fashion, look out for daily Chalkboard Specials, weekday lunch and weekend brunch, and family-style meals on Sunday evenings.

SOMA staple Alexander's Steakhouse is expanding their offerings, and their reach, with the opening of Alexander's Patisserie in Mountain View. Pastry chef Dries Delanghe has created a menu of savory and sweet baked goods, and the bakery will be offering everything from gourmet sandwiches to cakes, cookies, and chocolates (there will be coffee on offer, too). The Patisserie will also be making fresh bread for all of Alexander's Bay Area locations.

Speaking of sweet treats, continue to indulge at the new location of Napoleon's Macarons, now open at Valley Fair in Santa Clara. This is the first Northern California location of the Los Angeles-based bakery (and the third location overall); expect various flavors of traditional, French macarons, plus chocolate-dipped Maca'Leons and ice cream-filled Maca'Longs. Get your filll of traditional flavors, plus seasonal maracon-riffs like bourbon pumpkin chai cheesecake.
