The latest foodie happenings on the Peninsula.
The new hot spot in Burlingame may be Fattoria E Mare, a big space nestled by the Broadway Cal Train station that rocks pleasing possibilities. An Italian seafood menu by the Chef-Owner Pablo Estrada, who is an alum of the Italian stalwart Rose Pistola in San Francisco, boasts dishes like King salmon en saor, pickled local sardines, and a seafaring stew of local cod and shellfish with fennel, potato, and tomato brodo. Pasta-, pizza-, and meat-lovers can happily do their eating thing here, too and there's patio seating, a generous bar space with an expansive wine list to match, and “must-have” tiramisu. Mountain View has a newcomer to the Irish sports pub scene via the opening of O'Malley's, found in the space that was once Francesca's. Change is tough, but this one may be bearable: strong drinks are still scoring big points and the same staff is on the updated roster. There are physical upgrades to the interior (hey, big, new flat screen TVs and pool tables!) and straightforward pub fare sizzles from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Karaoke and live music (a sport of their own – or not) are honored here as well. 2135 Old Middlefield Way
Battle of the juicers is going down in Palo Alto. Cold pressed and raw juices with names like Jala-Greeno to EZ Green Plus (an apt description for why folks juice in the first place) are from the folks at Project Juice, which just opened last month and is the company's first outpost outside of San Francisco. Another juicery grabbing market share appears to be Beet Generation, served at the California Avenue Palo Alto Farmers' Market. There are also plans to launch at the Sunnyvale and Campbell farmers markets in the works, with the promise that “summer 2014 is going to be juicy!” To which we can all agree.
