Transported: TransportationCamp Comes to SF in March

By

Welcome to "Transported," our weekly series about getting places in San Francisco, whether you take the bus or the BART, bike or drive. Come here to find the skinny on secret parking spots, the new bike lanes and how to get across town on Muni without losing your mind.

Billed as an "unconference" spanning the entire weekend of March 19th, TransportationCamp is the perfect opportunity for Muni/BART/AC Transit/bicycle/car-obsessed San Franciscans to nerd out together and make change happen.

It's a meeting of the minds for transportation professionals, technologists, and urban transportation enthusiasts for debates, creative workshops, connecting with one another, and learning the transportation issues at stake in a city like San Francisco.

At the forefront of the unconference are themes like open data (best practices and technical challenges), ways to lower the cost of technology for transportation agencies, and creative new approaches to addressing transportation issues.

The coolest thing is that participants can suggest topics they'd like to discuss, and they're amassing them online so people can vote on what they like. The final list of ideas will be decided on the first day of TransportationCamp, so to get yours on there, submit them here.

The weekend's schedule goes like this:

  • Friday evening: “tweet-up” for early arrivals
  • Saturday: Invited speakers, lightning talks, unconference sessions, transportation hacking!  Dinner provided by dinner sponsors.
  • Sunday: Unconference sessions, transportation hacking, special tours of local transit and transportation facilities.

The best part? It's free to get in on this think tank. Let them know you're attending (and scope out what bigwigs will be too) here.

TransportationCamp at Gray Area Foundation for the Arts, 55 Taylor Street, 415-843-1423.
