Author Mary Roach and Mythbusters' Adam Savage Dish Space Travel

Mary Roach is a local legend—you'll likely remember titles like Stiff, Spook, and Bonk. She makes science a hoot, no more so than in her latest Packing for Mars. As part of the SF Public Library's One City One Book program (this year's book is Packing for Mars, of course), Roach's scientific findings will be challenged by none other than the Discovery Channel's Mythbusters' Adam Savage. Prior to the conversation, you'll screen Rockets of Yesterday, a video tour of rocket dreams from the '50s and '60s, curated by outer space enthusiast Megan Prelinger. Get there early to score a seat—this event is one of next week's hottest tickets ... that is, if you're into geeking out about science.

When: 6 p.m., Wednesday, 11/2
Where: Koret Auditorium at SF Main Library, 100 Larkin St.

Extra, extra, read all about it: Smitten Ice Cream, in partnership with the SF Public Library's One City One Book program, has made a special space-themed flavor in preparation of next week's event. Moon Pie, as it's so appropriately named, is a mix of marshmallow ice cream with chocolate and graham cracker cookies.

The Bonus: Today at 4 p.m. and tomorrow (Sat. 10/29) at noon, the library will set up shop at Smitten and will give away free copies of Mary Roach's Packing for Mars to the first bunch of people to order the new Moon Pie flavor.
