BYOQ Brings the Beats Back to Golden Gate Park

BYOQ Brings the Beats Back to Golden Gate Park

By

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass may be over, but the Golden Gate Park music season has just begun. Bring Your Own Queer (BYOQ) returns this Saturday for their fifth annual daytime queer music and art festival in Golden Gate Park’s Music Concourse Bandshell.

Over the years, this homegrown festival has grown into a full-fledged extravaganza, pulling in some of the best queer artists from California and beyond. This year’s festival features DJ’s from Ships in the Night, a radical queer Bay Area party that unifies the region's often-divergent LGBTQ communities.

Ships will be joined by electro hip-hop duo Double Duchess (pictured), the Godfather of Bath House Disco, Bus Station John, the infectious electronica group, Adonisaurus and Comfort & Joy's M*J*R*. San Francisco’s own Lil Miss Hot Mess will MC the event, while acrobat troupe Body Waves contort their way around the beautiful Bandshell.

So grab your bike or the N, a picnic blanket, your favorite shoes and, of course, remember to bring your own queer (though there will be plenty on hand, in case you forget yours). The festival is free, but donations are encouraged; the daytime party runs 12-6 p.m. and the afterparty spills into Milk Bar with a host of local DJ's.
