Pedal OUT to BYOQ's Queer Music Fest This Saturday

By

This Saturday, the annual Bring Your Own Queer (BYOQ) music and arts festival returns to the Bandshell in Golden Gate Park. Now in its fourth year, the daytime (12 - 6 p.m.) festival features a great lineup of DJs, live bands, a queer fashion show—and bikes, plenty o' bikes.

In addition to performances by Edaj of Mango, Guy Ruben from The Lookout and Steve Fabus of Go Bang and a cast of amazing queer artists like La Chica Boom and Beat Feet Orchestra, there are also a lot of bike-centric activities:

Group Ride to the Event: Want to pedal out to the festival the long and scenic way? The awesome no rider left behind bike group Queers for Gears will be leading a 15-mile ride that ends at the BYOQ festival. Meet at 17th and Castro at 10 a.m. for the ride. Spoke cards and new friends to be collected, and you’ll get a chance to yell, Queeeeeer across an intersection, if you choose.

Food by Bike: In March, I wrote about the just launched mobile bike kitchen, Hot Bike. Six months in, the pedal-powered food cart is really kicking it into high gear. They’ve expanded their menu to include barbeque style treats, and in terrific homo fashion, they’ll be cooking up some bean burgers a la bike (with dipping sauces and pickles, naturally!).

Mobile Bike Repair: Bike Positive will have their mobile bike repair station set up at the event. So if your wheel’s a little out of true, your brakes just don’t seem to be catching or there’s some weird knocking in your headset—bring it on by. The donation-based Bike Positive will wrench away at your ride…while you dance to the sounds of Hard French.

See you and your bike at the party!
