Find One-of-a-Kind Art at Creativity Explored's Annual Holiday Sale

Looks can be deceiving. While the works shown here could easily be a preview for the next exhibition at 111 Minna Gallery, they are, in fact, the creative impulses of artists with developmental disabilities, including Diane Scaccalosi, John Patrick Mckenzie, Lance Rivers, and Vincent Jackson—whose work has been licensed for use by Michael Recchiuti and CB2.

These are just 4 among the 130-plus talents represented by Mission nonprofit Creativity Explored, which has provided studio space, materials, and a broad range of classes and workshops for disabled virtuosos for the past 30 years. By contextualizing the artists’ work in a true gallery setting, Creativity Explored challenges assumptions about disability and provides its residents with a much-needed opportunity to profit from their work. “In most cases, our artists have a minimal income, so money realized from the sale of their art makes a significant difference,” says executive director Amy Taub. Look for one-of-a-kind prints, drawings, paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and textiles at the organization’s annual holiday sale (Dec. 1–22).
