Live Music This Week: Decemberists, Waxahatchee, Merle Haggard & More

It's full-tilt indie this week, folks.

Monday/Tuesday: José González at Bimbo's 365 Club

It’s been eight years since cult singer-songwriter hero Jose Gonzalez last filed a solo album. It doesn’t seem that long, thanks to his day job in the band Junip, which features Gonzaelez’ signature hushed vocals. Gonzalez is currently on tour in support of the new album, Vestiges & Claws, which he described to SFGate as “putting out questions more than anything else.”

Monday: Curren$y at Ruby Skye

Former 504 Boyz packleader Curren$y recently revealed his first album since the oft-praised 2012 release Stoned Immaculate. The newest entry into the New Orleans emcee’s discography is titled, Pilot Talk III, featuring Wiz Khalifa among others, and produced by Ski Beats.

Tuesday: We Are Scientists at The Independent

These indie goofballs are as silly as they are thrilling. The duo’s latest album, TV en Français,is earning kudos from influential sites like Alternative Press noting the record is the most complete record to date from the band. Get on the bandwagon, nerds.

Tuesday: Merle Haggard at Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium

The country legend has officially partnered with fellow country legend Woodie Guthrie for a new album, "Django and Jimmie," and early returns are beyond encouraging. The duo just released its first single, “It’s All Going to Pot,” and the YouTube video already has 4.5 million views.

Wednesday: Waxahatchee at Great American Music Hall

Singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield took the internets by storm with her 2012 debut American Weekend, causing tastemakers to completely reset their expectations for modern lo-fi. Crutchfield’s latest, Ivy Tripp, is a daring mid-fi follow-up with similarly successful results.

Friday: The Decemberists at Greek Theatre

Every English Lit TA’s favorite aughts indie rock band plays the Greek on the heels of the brilliant new album What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World.
