Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

By

1. Yelp Drinks Week: Just when your liver thought the Beer Week coast was clear, Yelp has launched another salvo with their annual week of 50% off cocktails, starring the "greatest hits" of some of SF's best bars. With 30 watering holes participating, choices abound, but a few of the drinks that caught our eye include the $5 Mikael's Moondance at 15 Romolo (white whiskey, apple-honey shrub, angostura bitters); the $5 Wry Rajah at Dosa on Fillmore (rye, vermouth, cherry liqueur, mango, chili); the $6.50 sage Sazerac at Fifth Floor; and $2.50 pints of Fat Tire at Hobson's Choice. The full list has even more great options. (Monday, February 27 - Sunday, March 4, various bars.)

2. Lady Leap Year: Cocktails of the Farmers Market: In honor of the Irish tradition of allowing women to propose marriage on the leap year, CUESA is celebrating the return of February 29th with an all-female lineup of bartenders. Lady libation masters from Beretta, Maven, Rye, Hotsy Totsy Club, Michael Mina, and other local spots will mix up two full-size signature cocktails and 10 drink samples for just $40, including seasonal bites. Fans of CUESA's seasonal cocktail parties might want to consider a $135 seasonal pass, which includes admission to all four of 2012's events, extra food tickets, and goodies from liquor brands. Tickets are here. (Wednesday, February 29, 5:30-8 pm, at the CUESA Kitchen at the Ferry Building, 1 Ferry Building, Embarcadero.)

3. The 7th Annual SF Mid-Winter Barworkers' Ball: SF's bar staff mix your drinks, fetch more ice, check your IDs and your coats, and spin your favorite tunes all year long. Pay tribute to them at their annual industry shindig, featuring great deals on high-end bourbon and tequila drinks; DJs from Hard French, Tubesteak, and Temple; and contests designed to test the mettle of even the most hardened gin-slinger. Admission is free for anyone who works in the bar or restaurant industry; if you're a member of the general public, it's $5. (Monday, February 27, 8 pm-2 am, at Cafe du Nord, 2170 Market St., Upper Market.)

4. Noise Pop Happy Hour: Can't get enough Noise Pop, or want to pre-game for that show you're seeing later on in the evening? Bender's has you covered with nightly happy hours featuring $3 well drinks, $1 off draft beers, $2 PBR, and $5 pint-size margaritas, as well as the musical stylings of a rotating guest. Tonight's performers are Picture Atlantic, Soft Swells, and Coast Jumper; Thursday brings The Frail, Incan Abraham, and French Cassettes; and Friday is a The Bay Bridged-sponsored blowout with Jel, James & Evander, Raleigh, and Moncrief. (Wednesday, February 22 - Friday, February 24, 5 pm, at Bender's, 806 South Van Ness Ave., Mission.)

5. Smuggler's Cove's Secret Cocktail: The drink menu at Smuggler's Cove is already one of SF's most extensive, but if you're looking to impress someone special with your secret-menu ninja skills, just say "isthmus" to the bartender. The secret password is for a refreshing combination of Ron Abuelo seven-year rum, red vermouth, velvet falernum, lime, and soda. (Daily, at Smuggler's Cove, 650 Gough St., Hayes Valley.)
