Eat It: Champagne and Chocolate

Champagne and Oysters at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant!
One of the greatest pleasures of the winter season (or any season, really) is the classic pairing of ice-cold briny oysters and ice-cold bubbly Champagne. If you want to get your fix before New Year's Eve, head to the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant on December 15, for their second annual Champagne and Oyster fête. Choose from a flight of Grande Marques and Grower-Producer bubbles ($46 for 5 pours) or opt for the Non-vintage rosé flight ($18 for 3 pours). The Hog Island oyster cart will be rolling down the hall to serve you—$15 for a half-dozen, $27 for a dozen. The event runs from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Cheers!
Chutney Class at 18 Reasons
With all the roasted meats that grace tables during the month of December, a suitable chutney seems a natural mate. If you'd like to learn to make your own, book at ticket for the chutney class at 18 Reasons. Sean Timberlake, together with Alison McQuade of McQuade Celtic Chutneys, will teach this hands-on lesson. Tickets are $35 and the event runs from 7-9 p.m. To buy yours, click here.
A Very Sweet Cal Academy Nightlife
This week, Cal Academy's Nightlife is devoted to chocolate—in addition to the usual DJ and (chocolatey) cocktails, there will also be a truffle and ganache cooking demo, and a guided tasting of Madagascar chocolates. The beer served, naturally, will be chocolate stout. The event will be held December 16 and begins at 6 p.m., tickets are $12 ($10 for Cal Academy members) and you can purchase them right here.
And Some More Chocolate ...
If you don't get your cacao fix at the Nightlife event, you'll have a second opportunity at the Chocolate Lab at Local: Mission Eatery on December 19 from 5-7 p.m. The owners of Socola chocolate will be teaching a hands-on chocolate truffle class—learn the tricks of the trade, and leave with a box of truffles to hoard or gift away. Tickets are $50. Reserve now!
