Foodie Agenda: Oysters Restaurant, Pop-up Wine Bar, and More
Friday, August 10
Pop-ups are all the rage these days. Jump on the bandwagon this Friday and head down to El Rio for Mugsy’s pop-up wine bar. Dedicated to reviving the ailing fortunes of Merlot, Mugsy’s are doing their part to help Merlot make a comeback. Some of the wines on show will be Ray’s Station 2009 Merlot crafted by the young woman winemaker, Jacqueline Bahue from California’s north coast and a 2009 Merlot from Cerrillos, a winery at the forefront of the young organic winemaking movement in Chile. There will also be sparkling wine and oysters (but they are likely to go fast). So run down straight after work and take part in the Merlot revival! From 5:30-8:30 p.m. @ El Rio, 3158 Mission Street.
If it’s oysters and not wine that excite you, then perhaps you should take a jaunt over to Mission Bay for the opening of Mission Rock Resort. Oyster lovers should rejoice, as they have a plethora of different oysters as well some delicious locally brewed draft beer beers to compliment your food choices. Along with beers there are also a wide variety of wines and even the deadly, Sailors Shipwrecked Punch, made with three different rums. Open from 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. @ 817 Terry A Francois Blvd.

Come celebrate the three best things in life this weekend: Handmade bicycles, handmade pizza and live music. The annual event developed by Anthony Mangieri, founder of Una Pizza Napoletana, and Sean Walling, founder of Soulcraft Bicycles brings together a cross-section of the preeminent names in the cycling industry with a focus on bicycles, parts and components created in Northern California. Anthony will be slaving away over his pizza oven as exhibitors take up residence in his restaurant, displaying handmade bicycles, components and parts for all to see. There will also be a bike-themed photography exhibit, a coffee truck and live music. It costs $10 to get in (admission includes free pizza!) and there will be tons of secure bicycle parking. From 1-7 p.m. @ Una Pizza Napoletana, 210 11th Street.
The 49ers host their one and only public practice this Sunday during their training camp. Nearly 8,000 fans made their way over to Candlestick Park last year for this event, and this year promises to be more of the same. Visitors can see five 49ers Super Bowl trophies, Super Bowl Rings and other rare memorabilia in the 49ers Museum as well as games and drills for kids to test their skills at. After the team’s practice, get in on an autograph session on the Candlestick Park Field. To satiate your hunger, there will be a myriad of food trucks congregating around the grand plaza offering delicious food all day! The day costs $5 and tickets can be purchased here. From 11:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. @ 490 Jamestown Avenue.
