Plin Opens on Valencia Street

Rising star chef Alexander Alioto opened his new restaurant Plin last weekend. A neighborhood restaurant specializing in Italian seafood and handmade pasta dishes, opt for Alexander’s famous Raviolo Uovo and a strong Americano Sour (rye Whiskey, Carpano Antica, Cappelletti Aperitivo, lemon and egg white) from Bar Manager Daniel Federico (LA's Harvard & Stone). And in case you didn't know, Alioto is a fourth generation chef and restaurateur whose family has played a major role in San Francisco’s rich history, beginning with the landmark Fisherman’s Wharf restaurant, Alioto’s, a local institution since 1925.

Open Tuesday to Saturday 5:30-11:00pm, and Sunday 5:30-10pm, 280 Valencia Street.

Australian Truffle Season at SPQR

In celebration of Australian truffle season, SPQR has teamed up with Frank Brunacci of The Truffle & Wine Co., the largest producer of Australian truffles, to offer a special five-course tasting menu. These “black diamonds” are unearthed from late May through August in Manjimup, Western Australia and are showcased by Chef Matthew Accarrino. The menu includes: Chilled bread and almond soup, grape, fried shrimp and crouton; Artichoke salad, mortadella, goat cheese “panini”; “Pasta Fatta in casa con tartufi neri”; Truffle stuffed game hen, chanterelle, savoy cabbage and puffed rice; and “Torta di zucchini”, nectarine, vanilla mascarpone and truffle gelato.

Tuesday-Saturday evenings in August: 5:30 – 10:30 pm, $108, additional $62 for wine pairings, 1911 Fillmore Street.

Pilsner Beer Tasting Journey

Master Cicerone Rich Higgins will lead a sampling session of six different pilsners, starting with the original and taking you through tasting characteristics and the history of each beer. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to taste the very rare Pilsner Urquell kellerbier, which will be flown in from the brewery—un-filtered and un-pasteurized—just for the occasion. Don't wait! Only 60 tickets are available, and flights will be offered until the beer runs out.

Wednesday, August 12: 6:30-8 pm, Barrel Head Brewhouse, 1785 Fulton St. Get tickets here
