Foodie Agenda: SF Hottest Culinary Crew

Thursday, Feb. 16

7x7 contributor Carolyn Alburger will be at the Commonwealth Club talking with what she's dubbing SF's hottest culinary crew: Brandon Jew from Bar Agricole, William Werner former of Quince and Tell Tale Preserve Company, Brett Cooper of Outerlands, Michael Gaines from Central Kitchen, and Evan Rich, the cocreator of Chefs' Night Off Pop-Up Restaurants. The discussion starts at 6:30 p.m. and is acting as an appetizer to Monday's five-course meal prepared by the crew. 

Saturday, Feb. 18

Got a killer cupcake recipe? Bring your best batch to the cupcake competition at Omnivore Books between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m for a public tasting and voting. Admission is $5 at the door, and the winner splits the money with the bookshop. 

Monday, Feb. 20

The panel from Thursday's "hottest culinary crew" will be at Bar Agricole to present a five-course prix-fixe dinner: chilled sunchoke soup with preserved lemon and nettles, halibut with bone marrow vinaigrette and turnips, roasted black cod with Espelette and celery, rabbit loin with mustard, green garlic, and cardoons, and milk chocolate, citrus, violet, and burnt honey. 

Tuesday, Feb. 21

Hayes Valley's Bar Jules starts lunch service, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Check out the ever-changing menu on the restaurant's chalkboard. 

Later, in the same neighborhood, Boxing Room is celebrating Fat Tuesday with special menu additions, a live band, and king cake. Chef Justin Simoneaux will offer his signature duck and sausage jambalaya, fluff oysters on the half shell, Abita’s Mardi Gras Bock on tap, and a special king cake from pastry chef Bill Corbett. Aaron Leese and The Panhandlers, a San Francisco-based New Orleans-style jazz and blues band, will be playing live from 7 to 10 p.m.
