Silicon Valley Eats: Michael Mina in Santa Clara & The Grill House in Redwood Shores

French Dip at The Grill House.

Fire it up, South Bay — this week's openings are all about the grill, and the delicious meaty (and vegetarian!) goodness that comes with it. Plus, authentic Thai food and all-you-can-eat sushi, for good measure.

First up is the long-awaited opening of Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak & Pub, now slinging steaks and killer burgers in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Say what you will about the Niner's new home, this is serious game day food. Bourbon Steak is a dinner-only operation, and showcases Mina's modern steakhouse favorites (hello, dry-aged beef, truffle mac 'n' cheese, and lobster pot pie). Expect local seafood and seasonal vegetable dishes, too. Bourbon Pub is a more casual affair — open for both lunch and dinner, the Pub is a spot for craveable football fare. Think Dungeness crab deviled eggs, fried pickles, ribs, and the Smokin' Double Barrel Wagyu Dog (see below, and try not to drool).

Sticking to the meat-fueled theme, The Grill House is now open in Redwood Shores (the first sit-down restaurant to grace the area since 1993). Owned by brothers Will and James Hayes, the restaurant showcases local meat, seafood, and produce, all of which will be prepared on the namesake grill. Menu items include a selection of burgers and sandwiches, flatbreads and wings, and soups and salads (some of which include grilled cheese croutons). Local craft beer and wines are also available, and make appearances on the menu in the form of beer vinaigrette and stout barbecue saucce.

Bow Thai in San Mateo has been reopened as Tasty Thai, a first time restaurant endeavor for Thailand native Chutima Buntora. Expect more authentic Thai spices, herbs, and dishes including Thai fish cakes, boat noodles, and Khao Soi.

Finally, bring your appetite to Monster Chef, now open in Half Moon Bay. This all-you-can-eat experience includes sushi, Japanese izakaya dishes (meat skewers), and other Japanese cuisine like chawanmushi egg custard, tempura, and donburi. $45 allows you unlimited ordering from the menu, with items served up on individual plates (versus a less appetizing buffet experience).
