Saturday Inspiration: Illy Espressoda and the Art of Weekending

By

San Francisco found a way to elevate food trucks, burgers, and a simple piece of toast, and it's high time to turn a weekend into the Art of Weekending. Those who pursue the Art of Weekending understand that those precious few days are not for wasting. Bon vivants run on creativity, never content to stick with the same-old drip coffee (you know who you are). A well-lived weekend doesn't require a packed schedule full of highbrow activities, but it does mean breaking out of your rut to explore the world around you.

Elevate your morning coffee routine with this quirky espresso recipe from Illy master barista Giorgio Milos. The uncommon take on flavored coffee is the perfect way to wake up for Saturday adventures or to stay in for a lazy Sunday (bonus points: it's dairy-free).

ILLY ESPRESSODA

8 ounces club soda

1 ounce Illy espresso

1 ounce vanilla syrup

Fill a standard 10-ounce latte glass to the top with fresh ice. Add club soda, leaving room on top for espresso. Add vanilla syrup and stir. Prepare espresso and pour over soda. Chill if desired. To enjoy the espressoda for cocktail hour, fill the glass with ice, add 1/2 ounce vodka or rum (avoid citrus or bitter flavored spirits), then add the soda and vanilla, before topping with the espresso.
