Scenes of the City: Magnolia Brewery's New Restaurant, Smokestack Sets Up Shop

For this week's Scenes of the City we headed out to Dogpatch to get a sneak peek at Dave McLean's Smokestack (a nod to the Grateful Dead's classic cover of the Howlin' Wolf composition, "Smokestack Lighting") Restaurant and new Magnolia Brewing facilities.

Right in the heart of Dogpatch at 22nd and 3rd, the 80-seat space is filled with natural light and the ambiance of its industrial location. The kitchen is led by Namu Gaji’s chef Dennis Lee and promises to feature some of the best BBQ around.

The 11,000 square-feet space features a 30-barrel setup, which can yield about 5,000 barrels of beer a year. The interior of the BBQ-meets-Brewpub was designed by Kevin Landwehr and Devin Becker of the New York design firm Nothing Something, and features many different textures of repurposed metal and wood.

Enjoy the photos and check it out for yourself when it opens (which should be very soon) at 2505 3rd St.
