Bar Refaeli Dons Robindira Unsworth on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Cover

Model Bar Refaeli isn’t the only star sparkling on the cover of the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, which hit newsstands in February and created even more than the usual amount of bikini-driven buzz when this year’s magazine cover landed a gig traveling around the country as the temporary exterior of a Southwest Airlines plane.

Sharing the spotlight with Refaeli is a piece by none other than Petaluma-based jewelry designer Robindira Unsworth, whose luxe-bohemian collections are available in San Francisco at Bloomingdale's, Margaret O'Leary, Anthropologie and ooma. The beach chic Gypsy Necklace ($413) draped casually across the model’s tanned décolletage features three strands of gold vermeil nuggets in 22K gold.

For Unsworth and her husband and business partner Robert, ending up on the cover was a welcome surprise.

“The cover is really super top secret, so even the model doesn’t find out until the night before it hits the stands, so we had no idea,” Unsworth tells us.

She adds:

“The day the magazine came out, I received a call from a friend in New York, saying, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re on the cover of Sports Illustrated with Bar Refaeli, who is basically wearing nothing else.’”

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue isn’t the only recent development for the Unsworths. Last week, the husband-and-wife team announced a Words of Wisdom collection of hammered gold vermeil pendants for summer and launched a new web boutique. Through March 15, online orders are 20 percent off with the discount code CP20P1.
