Dinner With Anthony Bourdain

Chef, TV star, writer, new dad, and raconteur Anthony Bourdain rolled into town recently as part of his No Reservations book tour. He made many appearances around the Bay Area, and everywhere he went he was greeted like a rock star—lines around the block for every book signing or dinner.

Bourdain was a chef first. He made his mark in the kitchens of his native New York. However, his name has been firmly placed on the food map after the release of his tell-all book Kitchen Confidential, which exposed the unsavory side of a chef’s life…say no more!

TV stardom beckoned. A stint on The Food Network with A Cook's Tour was followed by his hit show now on the Travel Channel, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservation, where he hops around the globe satisfying his curiosity and his tummy. It is “pants down” the best show on TV right now. I love his show; I love his manner, his tone, his way with words and his passion for food and other cultures. Catch it Monday nights on the Travel Channel at 10 p.m.

His book, by the way, is a pictorial of Bourdain’s No Reservations adventures and is filled with stories and shots from his travels.

As you might imagine it was an honor to share the floor and the dinner table with him at last week’s dinner at Left Bank restaurant in Menlo Park. Thanks to Chef Roland Passot and the Left Bank team. And thanks to Mr. Bourdain for being his smart, witty, sardonic self.

“Come on, bring it on, hit me with what ya got.” He told the packed house. And one woman bravely took the mic to complain about his support of foie gras.

“Get over it, lady. Next.” Bourdain told her (and that was the nice part).

Another asked, “What is the worst thing you’ve eaten?”

AB: “Chicken McNuggets.” As the audience erupted into laughter.

“That's not funny, it’s true” said Bourdain.

Enjoy the pics.

Cheers
