Three Reasons to Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

Happy Patrons enjoying the beer and view at the German Tourist Club

San Francisco is going to be overrun this weekend by revellers enjoying the Pride celebrations. If you need to escape the crowds, here are three reasons to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.

Visit the San Anselmo Art and Wine Festival
Now in its 29th year, the San Anselmo Art and Wine festival is sure to titillate the senses. Held in downtown San Anselmo, it is a free event featuring more than 200 presentations by artists and an array of gourmet food. Being a wine festival means there is a huge selection of wines on show, with free tastings from some of the finest wineries in the region. There will be live music all day at the main stage featuring a ton of local performers. You may get lucky and catch the Santana tribute band if you are there early enough on Saturday. The festival is a kid friendly event with children's activities and rides scattered throughout.
When: Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 6pm.
Where: San Anselmo Avenue (Bolinas to Tamalpais), downtown San Anselmo, CA.

On Saturday afternoon there will be arts and crafts for kids, nature/history hikes, and a special naturalist-led sunset hike. Dinner on Saturday night will be barbecue (courtesy of Whole Foods Market) and potluck. As the sun slowly sets, everyone will be gather around the campfire, to shoot the breeze and gorge on s'mores. Breakfast is provided on Sunday morning. The event costs $25 and kids under 4 are free. Tickets can be purchased here.

Hike in and have a beer at the German Tourist Club
Nestled in the Muir Woods, the German Tourist Club is a German-style beer haus that serves some fantastic beer and snacks to hikers. You can drive almost the entire way there - but if you do that you are pretty much missing the point. The Tourist Club was founded by a group of naturalists who so loved Muir Woods that they built this cabin to celebrate and enjoy the outdoors. The best way to get there is to hike in along one of the beautiful trails that criss-cross the mountains. The Tourist Club’s website has directions on how to hike in. The Dipsea trail is a little bit longer, but it is a stunning hike and well worth the effort - especially when there is a pitcher of chilled beer waiting for you at the end. There are free board games for guests to use as they sit on the beautiful patio overlooking the woods.
When: Both Saturday and Sunday from 1-5pm.
Where: 30 Ridge Ave, Mill Valley, CA.
