Hissing Lo-Fi Good Times with Times New Viking & King Tuff at Rickshaw Stop Tomorrow Night
Two shambolic, noise-encrusted bands are heading to Rickshaw Stop tomorrow night for a good old-fashioned hipster hoedown you won't want to sit out. They're Ohio's Times New Viking, whose latest album Dancer Equired (Merge) has just come blazing off the presses and the wilds of Vermont-based King Tuff, whose sun-fried, folksy garage rock is the soundtrack of hot summer days cruising the streets in a convertible.
The show's going to be all hissing guitars, crashing cymbals and hip shaking thanks to jams like King Tuff's nasaly Motown hop of "A Pretty Dress" or the defiant "Freak When I'm Dead". And Times New Viking's got their lo-fi grind honed to ugly-pretty perfection, thanks to the drones of Beth Murphy's keyboard, Adam Elliott's drum thwacks and Jared Phillips' lazy-day power chords combined with their boisterous three-way vocal attack.
Grab tickets here. Show starts at 8 pm, the Bay Area's very own Spencey Dude & The Doodles open. Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell St., 415-861-2011.
