Jams We Love: 7x7's Weekly Playlist

For our column Jams We Love, we're turning you onto the songs that keep us going every day. Today, a love-themed playlist in honor of Valentine's Day.

1. Lauryn Hill, "Ex-Factor"

One of the most pained, soulful demands for the truth about why a relationship died I've ever heard, which makes it insanely romantic by default. Were you lucky enough to get a ticket to her Warfield Show on the 16th? She'll perform this song along with the rest of The Miseducation album–one of the most important records of my young life.

2. Terry Malts, "Tumble Down"

The softer side of this SF band's chainsaw pop perfection that's still as raw and catchy as the rest of their barn burners. It has the innocence of young love, holding hands and watching the hustle and bustle of the city from atop a hill and letting loose enough to just let yourself fall for whatever's next. If you haven't seen them live yet, do so on the 17th at Hemlock Tavern. You won't regret it.

3. Van Morrison, "Sweet Thing"

Morrison put this song on his inimitable Astral Weeks album when he was in his early 20s, and his tender age shines through on this gorgeous lovers' anthem. The lyrics and imagery are gleeful proclamations of unbridled adoration and hope for the future, and as the song progresses, the flutes and violins start to tumble over themselves, seemingly out of pure excitement. If you've got a sweetheart this V-Day, play this–it might just become "your song," it's seriously that romantic.

4. The-Dream, "Turnt Out"

Baby-making music never sounded so good.

5. Aaliyah, "4-Page Letter"

Sometimes you just need to tell someone how you feel....in a letter. Old-school style. If that's your steez, put your pen to some paper. Aaliyah will give you some pointers.
