Who Wore What? The Month's Best Dressed

By

In this month of new beginnings, we've added new names and faces to our grouping of San Francisco's best dressed, along with more familiar fashionistas.

Here are the men and women who delight and charm with their sartorial style, and what they wore in January.

Winter White

January brought us no rain, and certainly no snow, but it was still a white winter for this trendsetter, who started the year off with a blank slate.

Color Makes Us Happy

The dramatic impact of white is wonderful, but color truly brightens our day. San Franciscans tend to favor black and grey, so we appreciate people who have a bold sense of color.

Wearing beautiful blue, Nancy Wong, of AdoreToAdorn, shows us that fashion need not be drab during pregnancy.

Kathleen Ensign, of KatWalkSF, wears Stella McCartney, while Mary Beth Shimmon and Isly Handbag's Sobia Shaikh wear Valentino, for colorful 1960s inspired looks.

Hey, Fancy Pants!

A great pair of pants can define your entire look, whether you want to go long and slinky, hip and casual, quirky or breezy-easy. See how these women exlore the possibilities.

Fashion stylist and 7x7's own Lauren Goodman wears her black trousers in the sophisticated Saint Laurent seventies style, long, fluid and slinky, like an evening skirt. So elegant.

Adrienne Kwok-Lundy, of Best Fashionable Friends, manages to create a layered look that somehow seems light and preppy, due to her Uniqlo legging pants.

Making Hats Happen

Deep down, you know you want to be the sort of woman who creates a sense of mystery and drama with a hat positioned "just so"... but you're not quite ready for Aretha Franklin or Joan Collins levels of mad hattery. These trendsetters show us how hats are done right.

Artists and Innovators

With so many in the tech industry passionate about art, and the San Francisco art world embracing tech stars as their most important new clients, it's not surprising they should dress alike. Also not surprising — they largely favor black, grey, and a hundred shades between. Eye-catching? Not really. But they wear it with great style.

An exception to the rule that members of San Francisco's creative class only wear black: Maria Kochetkova. Principal Dancer of The San Francisco Ballet, she appears here like a living portrait by Egon Schiele or Gustav Klimt. Divine! (Photo: Drew Altizer)

Paris Meets San Francisco

Paris is still the center of fashion for the well dressed around the world. These two local tastemakers made a recent trip there.

Cavalier Goods founders Jay Jeffers and Michael Purdy wear exquisite Bob Basset horse masks in leather, which they bought from Sui Generis, to Jean-Louis Deniot's Black Tie Leather Ball.

Aubrey Brewster, of Aubrey About Town, brings Paris to San Francisco with his chic Dior Homme t-shirt printed with Christian Dior's handwriting.

Best Fashion Friends

A frenemy lets you leave the house looking lousy, but a best friend wants you to look your best, and might even dress like you herself. These folks are clearly BFFs — best fashion friends!

Infinite Romance

"Infinite Romance" was the theme for this year's opening night gala for the San Francisco Ballet. Here are a few couples whose evening looks seemed aglow with romance.

Perhaps the sweetest couple in town, they're also one of the best dressed. Chris Bently and Camille Crowder at the opening night gala.

Another charming couple basking in aforementioned "infinite romance," Huifen Chan and her husband Roelof Botha.

Stephanie Marver and Jim Marver, recently married, are always beautifully dressed. Here, Stephanie pairs a stunning Chanel cape with a Giambattista Valli dress.

General Fabulousness

These women aren't following any special trends, they just dress with fabulous style.
