A Cookbook Swap at 18 Reasons
OK, so maybe you thought a copy of Keller’s Under Pressure would be an inspiration, but instead it’s an albatross? Tote that sucker down to 18 Reasons on Thursday, July 15, and swap it with a fellow cookbook enthusiast. Bring a book, take a book. It’s that simple! The event runs from 7-9 p.m. and the cost is $10 for the general public, $5 for 18 Reasons members.

Learn Lamb with Melissa Perello

Frances chef Melissa Perello will be teaching a lamb lesson in the Macy’s Cellar on July 17 at 2 p.m. Drop by to see what the chef is cooking up—the event is free and the first 50 guests will receive a free gift. To reserve your spot, visit macys.com/events

High on the Hog at Epic Roasthouse

Get piggy with it at Epic Roasthouse—the waterfront restaurant is hosting a pork-centric party at the restaurant on July 17. For $95 you can eat and drink to your heart’s content, sampling slow-roasted fennel porchetta, housemade charcuterie, pulled pork sandwiches, spare ribs and maple ice cream cones with bacon brittle all complemented by Pinot Noir from a handful of top-notch wineries. Also: a watermelon eating contest and horseshoes! The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, click here.

Watch a Film at Hayes Valley Farm
On July 20, the Hayes Valley Farm crew will be hosting their second movie night on the farm. The feature will be Botany of Desire, based on Michael Pollan’s book, and preceding the film there will be live bluegrass music from the Jugtown Pirates and a bake sale. Doors—well, fences—open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 8:30 p.m., but an early arrival is advised. Dress warmly!

Absinthe, Revealed
Should you care to expand your knowledge about the green fairy, Paul Owens, author of The Little Green Book of Absinthe, will be leading a tasting of the spirit on July 24 at Tortilla Heights. The event runs from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and admission is $30 ($20 for members of the Commonwealth Club, $14 for students). Our advice: conclude your tasting with a couple crispy tacos.
