Rip Curl Pro Search Kickoff and Save the Waves Film Fest
If you're into surfing, this is your week. Rip Curl's Pro Search competition touches down on SF November 1, and Surfrider is hosting an official kickoff party at Mezzanine with Transworld SURF's editor-in-chief Chris Cote and local garage rocker Ty Segall. And for more off-board action, check out this year's Save the Waves film fest at the Victoria Theatre.

Illuminations: Dia de Los Muertos and Man as Object
This week is your last chance to check out all the Dia de Los Muertos altars at SOMArts. And if you want to kill two birds with one stone, go on November 4 to catch the opening reception of Man as Object: Reversing the Gaze. Perhaps SOMArts' most provocative show to date, you can look forward to lots of male nudity. Round up the girls,nd leave your boyfriend at home.

Lang Lang

Francesca Woodman and The Air We Breathe
The first retrospective in the U.S. in more than 20 years, this exhibit brings Francesca Woodman's haunting photographs to light 30 years after the artist's untimely death (Woodman committed suicide at the age of 22). The Air We Breathe reflects on equal rights for same-sex couples, a hot topic very close to the heart of this city. The show includes work by Simon Fujiwara, Raymond Pettibon and more.
