Three Reasons to Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

Look to the north for a culture fix outside of city limits.

A Peachy Pie Tutorial

As summer blazes on, stone fruits (like peaches, nectarines, and plums) are in peak form. To celebrate this juicy time of year, Lenore and Anna, the “babes” from Three Babes Bakeshop will teach pie-making essentials at the Marin Country Mart Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 27th. You can learn how to craft a classic peach lattice pie using organic, tree-ripened peaches from Frog Hollow Farms. The sweetest part? It’s free. 10:30 am @ 2257 Larkspur Landing Circle, Larkspur.

Live Music Brunch

Finally, an event that rewards you for sleeping in. Head over to the iconic Sweetwater Music Hall for a very special Sunday Brunch, featuring the musical plucking of singer-songwriter Bobby Jo Valentine. Delicious food will be served during the very relaxed hours of 11 am – 2 pm, all while soaking in the musical style of West Coast Songwriter’s Association’s Songwriter of the Year. Valentine has been featured on ABC’s “The Morning Blend,” NBC’s “Outlook Video,” and recently in a commercial for the Ford Fusion. No tickets or reservations are required, and the event is open to all ages. Sunday, July 28th @ 19 Corte Madera Ave, Mill Valley.

Concert in the Park

This week’s third reason to make the journey across the Golden Gate Bridge is also one that won’t cost you a penny. Thanks to the San Anselmo Arts Commission, you can hear music in Creek Park every Sunday this summer from 1 – 4 pm, all for free. This Sunday, see the extraordinary, multi-platinum and multi-Grammy-winning Bonnie Hayes. She has written songs for the likes of Bette Midler, David Crosby, and Cher, as well as having a successful solo career. This will be Hayes’ last performance in the Bay Area before she relocates to the East Coast to take the position of Chairman of the Songwriting Department of the Berklee School of Music, so catch her while you can. July 28th @ Creek Park in downtown San Anselmo.
