Sexy Romantic Getaways: Las Alcobas, Mexico City

Sexy and romantic jaunts to launch the rest of the year.

Couples who love to party should head for Mexico's Carnival, taking place this year February 11-17. The six-day festival is an unofficial celebration of debauchery, including massive parades and the breaking of millions of cascarones (confetti-filled eggshells)—think of it as the last hoorah before the solemn abstinence of Lent.

Of course, romantic getaways may be exempt from such religious observances, especially for amorous couples who burrow into one of the 35 luxury rooms and suites at Las Alcobas Mexico City (from $300 a night). The muy romántico boutique inn is located in the upscale Polanco district, home to the Avenida Presidente Masaryk (think Rodeo Drive) and the ever-popular National Museum of Anthropology.

Nearby in the Federal District, the new Museo Júmex houses Latin America’s largest contemporary art collection beneath its David Chipperfield–designed sawtooth roof. Then again, the private garden terraces, marble spa baths, and cocoons of fine Italian bedding at Las Alcobas, which will open a Napa outpost in early 2016, rival the excitement of viewing, say, a replica of Montezuma’s feathered headdress. But there’s enough time to see it all, once you decide to come up for air.
